Students who are coming to Australia must be covered by a Health Insurance.The OSHC should have the same validity of your course. It will help you to pay the medical and hospital expenses during your studies in Australia.

How you can get the OSHC?
The payment of the OSHC should be done before your arrival in Australia. Could be paid by you or through your school in Australia.
OSHC Extention
OSHC could be extended when your visa is extended or each 12 months. The school can help you to renew.
Who is covered?
OSHC cover only the student. Family rates are available only for kids under age and wife with the student in Australia. OSHC will cover medical and hospital costs until the end of the validity of the student visa.

OSHC helps to pay Medical expenses:
Medical appointments (specialists included) in hospitals, medical centers or at home. OSHC will pay 85% of the official list price by the government for medical appointments. Lab exams (ex: blood test). X-ray Hospital: OSHC will pay 100% of the price list.
There are 2 types of Hospitals in Australia:
Public Hospital managed by the government
OSHC covers 100% of the costs in Public Hospitals in share accommodation, and the treatment prescript by the doctor. You will pay only the difference between the prices of cost and the price list. OSHC covers all cost in public hospitals even without boarding.
Private Hospital
OSHC covers partial costs if you decide for a treatment in a private hospital. Most cost are above of the Gov price list and you must pay the difference. Please consult your insurance .
Obs :
Treatments for long sty in Hospitals over 35 days should be justify by the doctor to the insurance company.
OBS:
In all cases the price difference in appointments or hospital cost will be paid by you.
OSHC NOT include:
To kids 18 years old
Pregnancy in the first 9 months of the insurance; treatments related health conditions before your arrival in Australia during your 12 months of membership. Fertilization treatment ;treatment while traveling to or from Australia; single room.
Treatment not cover by Medicare( cosmetic treatment or health screening)

Extra cover can be done with other the insurance plans (consult).There are many companies offering OSHC in Australia, and could be differences. Private health insurance is compulsory for International Students.
