What's a Smart Book Club?

Smart Book Clubs are not just a place for buying and selling of books on a habitual basis. You'll find the best selection of dictionaries, thesauri, and other reference books in our special Back-to-School collection. Whether you are looking for a desk reference or a pocket-size book, in English or a foreign language, you will find it here. The book review section is reviews by students for students.

Smart Library

studentsmart.in has a exclusive team for this library. This smart library is a gift for the rural students who will get their maximum benefit through this library. This smart library will be available for the students in a short span of time.

Look for a diverse group of students

A good range could include students with strong reading skills and/or earth-based teachers, stay-at-home parents, writers, farmers, counselors, entrepreneurs/small business owners. If all your members have similar attitudes and viewpoints, your book discussions will be short and lackluster. Your book club may also fade into oblivion.

Do's and Don'ts

*
Most book clubs tend to read fiction rather than non-fiction.Most book clubs discover that there cannot be much discussion about facts.
*
Book clubs members should be cautious about the number of people admitted into the group.
*

Too large of a group can make some individuals refrain from offering their opinions. Or a couple of individuals may dominate the discussion, intimidating other group members.

*
Have one person keep historical records of books read, and also books suggested and who suggested them.
*
Make sure everyone participates in the discussion. If a question is asked, everyone should contribute in the round robin. If you see someone being left out, prompt her for her opinion.
*

Keep notes while reading and not just when you are the leader. It helps to deepen discussion if specific passages can be read.

*

Even if you dislike the book do not blame the person who suggested it. Your dislike of the book will enliven discussion. Build your reasons and enjoy that intense interaction with other club members who love the book. After the discussion, you may discover an appreciation for the book that you never had before.

Testimonials

I started a book club last year and its going fairly well. However I am beginning to detect a decline in interest/enthusiasm from the members. Do you have suggestions about how I could make the meetings more interesting and exciting?

Hi Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find out about book signings in the India?

I've just read a book that I got from the Amazon.com website called "Amongst The Marines" by Steven Preece. When I read it I thought umm just another same old war story. How wrong I was, it was a warts an all personal story about life amongst the marines in the 80's era. It was violent, disgusting, hilariously funny and at the same time quite sad. All in all a good story I thought. It was eye opening what lay beneath the book cover. I'm looking forward to his sequal.

Want to Join a Book Club?

You can send your ideas and suggestions at booksclub@studentsmart.in

When you contact us to express interest in joining. This would be the guidelines that the book club set in the original agenda. The guidelines might not be formalized on paper. The teachers and faculty members of schools and colleges can also contact us through the above mention e-mail

Also ask for a list of their past books. This will also give you a good idea of the kinds of books read. Then if you have extra time, you could read some of the past books. Book clubs often refer to past books when discussing a current selection.
